Background
There is arguably little room for creativity in Indian schools. Subjects are mainly traditional academics such as Math, Science and English. Overall India's education system is highly competitive.
Teaching is done through the conventional 2-4-6 model, with learning happening between the 2 covers of a textbook, inside 4 walls of a classroom, for 6 hours a day.
(Above) An indian classroom
The prevailing classroom instruction strategy in our schools revolves around a uniform and common pedagogy for all the children in a class. Teachers impart instruction in a rote manner, with their primary objective being syllabus coverage, irrespective of whether the students comprehend or not.
Building an understanding
Secondary and Primary research
2.
Visiting different schools to understand various pedagogical approaches and their effectiveness:
-
Majority of government schools faced challenges to provide quality education.
-
Only a few private schools could afford to and laid emphasis on active learning.
-
For younger kids, the Montessori way of learning allowed the use of puzzles/ games.

3.
Conducted a survey to understand factors influencing for student engagement and dove deeper by talking to the students:
-
When asked why most pf the class disliked a particular subject, they responded that the teacher was very strict, and it made the subject boring. They instead preferred teachers who would employ 'fun' methods of teaching.
-
The survey results evidenced that a teacher has the power to influence student engagement and change their perception of a subject.

Understanding the System
Mapping and Finding Opportunity Areas
We mapped our research into four core areas:
-

-
Comparison between contemporary learning systems
-
Competencies required in the future
-
Potential areas of intervention

Insights | Inferences | Solution
Our deliverables cover three core aspects of how kids learn - the method, the purpose and the space.
The pedagogy adopted by the educator and his/ her personality immensely affects student motivation. Students end up hating a certain subject just because they dislike the teacher.
Creating a digital ecosystem to provide resources for educators and learners to help each other build better learning experiences.
Gamification helps increase student engagement consequently improving participation and the overall learning experience.
Introducing a Play- way method of teaching that is scalable, accessible and easy to use.
The physical environment has a significant impact on the learner's motivation and engagement.
Helping to create better and more suitable spaces to enhance the experience of education.
